Gilbert
de la O joins Neal Thao as second St. Paul School Board
Member to endorse Bob Long for Mayor
SAINT
PAUL, MN - St. Paul School Board Member Gilbert de la O
announced today his support of Bob Long for St. Paul Mayor.
De la O is the only Hispanic member on the St. Paul School
board, and a youth services coordinator at Neighborhood
House, a nonprofit social-services organization on St. Paul's
West Side. De la O joins fellow St. Paul School Board member
and Long Campaign Co-chair Neal Thao in support of Long.
"I am
supporting Bob Long because of his commitment to family
and neighborhoods," said de la O. "Bob Long clearly understands
that St. Paul is blessed with a diverse population and that
he needs to be the Mayor for all people in our neighborhoods,"
added de la O.
"I am
very honored to have Gilbert's support," said Bob Long,
a Saint Paul business owner and former Saint Paul City Council
Member. "We are building the most broad-based campaign throughout
the city. Gilbert will bring to this campaign some of the
best and brightest ideas for our youth," added Long.
De la
O will be a member of Long's "Youth and Family Policy Group,"
a committee of policy leaders who will work with Long to
develop a vision for bringing quality educational and youth
services to St. Paul. "De la O brings to the committee an
extensive background in youth services including after-school
programs."
De la
O will join Long at the first of many "Neighborhood Listening
Tour" meetings on Thursday, February 8, 2001 from 7:00 -
8:30 p.m. at the Neighborhood House/El Rio Vista Recreation
Center, 79 East Robie Street. The meeting is open to all
neighborhood residents and business owners and will provide
a chance for individuals to raises issues or concerns they
would like to see addressed by the next Mayor of St. Paul.
