LONG
CAMPAIGN KICK-OFF FUNDRAISER - A ROUSING SUCCESS!
Dec.
14, 2000 at Chang O'Hara's on Saint Paul's Selby Avenue.
Applause
rang throughout the room as Bob Long greeted supporters
and shared his vision for Saint Paul. Approximately 100
friends, neighbors, and activists listened as Bob said that
"Our campaign is about Saint Paul's PEOPLE, continuing our
economic PROSPERITY and demonstrating an unabashed PRIDE
in our city and its diversity."
Bob
explained that his message of People, Prosperity and Pride
means continuing the economic progress of the city while
reaching out to assist children and families, develop more
affordable housing, and keep taxes down while providing
high quality services.
"We
need to bring the economic success of downtown out to every
corner of the city. From Concord to Payne-Arcade, Ford Parkway
to Selby, University, and Snelling, every member of our
community should share in the success the city has had"
Bob explained. "We need to continue to build up our neighborhoods
and our neighborhood businesses. They are the heart and
soul of Saint Paul."
Bob's
supporters agreed with his vision. School Board member Neal
Thao, a co-chair of Bob's campaign, said that he was excited
to support a mayoral candidate that understands that St.
Paul's children should take a high priority. "Bob will work
with the School District and with community organizations
to develop the best pre-school and after school programs
possible. We need a mayor who understands that this city's
well-being starts with its children. Bob's remarks show
he understands how crucial early childhood programs are,
too"
Another
campaign co-chair, Fred Perez, liked Bob's emphasis on neighborhood
businesses. "It's great that downtown has been doing so
well. What we need now is to make sure all the city's businesses
do just as well. Bob will work with all the business associations
in the city to make sure they continue to grow and thrive."
Mary
Cathryn Ricker brought her daughter Maggie to the kick-off
celebration. She listened closely to Long as Maggie played
with the other children at the celebration. "After living
in different places around the world," she said, "I moved
back to Saint Paul because of the great neighborhoods. I'm
looking for a mayor that recognizes how important clean,
safe, diverse neighborhoods are to a city."
The
Long campaign is off to a great start. New supporters are
signing on every day. If you want to be a part of this exciting
