"A Proven Leader on Labor Issues"

Dear Labor Member:

Our city has long been known as a place where working men and women are respected by their local elected officials. The labor movement in St. Paul has actively provided leadership on public policy that advances the rights of workers and improves the quality of life for all our citizens. I'm proud to have been part of the tradition of partnership between labor and public officials. And I'm proud of my many past labor endorsements.

As your next Mayor, I will work with labor to protect our tradition of respect for the working women and men of St. Paul. Together, we will elect a Mayor who will fight for the opportunity of every worker to share in our city's prosperity. And with your help, I will be the Mayor for the working families of St. Paul.

As your next Mayor, I will work with labor to advance an agenda that reflects our progressive values and respects worker's rights. My priorities as Mayor will be strengthening our families, making safe and livable neighborhoods, expanding living wage jobs, building more affordable housing, and maintaining a fiscally responsible city government that provides necessary public services. Together we will make certain that our job training and education programs give St. Paul the best workforce in America.

As your next Mayor, I will work with labor to get things done for St. Paul. My record on city issues spans more than 14 years, including three terms on the City Council representing Ward 3. Since retiring from the Council in 1994, I have worked with municipalities to expand housing and promote economic development. And my record of supporting labor-sponsored initiatives shows that I have the "guts" to be a leader on controversial issues that benefit working men and women. (See a list of accomplishments on reverse side.)

I ask for your support to become St. Paul's next Mayor. The volunteers who make up my campaign demonstrate that I have the broad-based, citywide support needed to earn the DFL endorsement and go on to win the September Primary and November General Election. My campaign has already built a diverse, grassroots coalition of more than 400 supporters -- bringing parents, community leaders, union members, small business owners, and DFL party leaders together to win this race.
