Long Calls for a Mayoral Forum in Each Saint Paul Neighborhood

July 18, 2001

SAINT PAUL, MN -Mayoral Candidate Bob Long challenged his opponents in the Mayoral race to join him in calling for Mayoral candidate forums in each of Saint Paul’s distinct neighborhoods before the September 11 primary.

Long said, "The salient issues in this campaign are in our neighborhoods. When I’m out talking with voters, the issues that most often come up include the West Seventh Busway, the Como area Bus routing decision, redevelopment of brownfields such as the Maxson Steel site, the Ethanol Plant and other specific neighborhood concerns.

Long added, "It is very important for residents in each of our neighborhoods to hear our views on these very specific neighborhood issues that so greatly affect their quality of life."

Long sent a letter to each of the 17 district councils asking them to consider holding a forum or working with one or two adjacent district councils to sponsor a joint forum. Long also sent a letter to each of his major opponents asking them to join him in the request for the Mayoral forums.
