DFL Caucus Endorses Former Councilmember and Business Owner
Bob Long for Saint Paul Mayoral Campaign
April
12, 2001
SAINT
PAUL, MN -Megan Thomas, Chair of the Stonewall DFL Caucus
announced today that the caucus endorsed Bob Long for the
Saint Paul Mayoral race.
" Bob
Long is the most knowledgeable and shows the strongest support
for issues of concern to the gay, lesbian, bi and transgender
community. Bob has a strong campaign and will be successful
in the upcoming precinct caucuses and ward conventions",
said Thomas. "Bob recognizes that we are citizens of the
whole community and will make St. Paul the best city to
own homes, work in and raise our children", added Thomas.
Bob
Long was endorsed over the other 5 mayoral candidates who
screened. Some of his accomplishments include co-authorship
of the St. Paul Human Rights Amendment and vigorously campaigning
against its repeal. Long also proposed the measure that
resulted in St. Paul's first women firefighters and co-authored
legislation creating a Police Civilian Review. Long was
the Executive Director for the Minnesota Justice Foundation,
providing legal services in the area of human rights. Bob
also personally represented individuals with disabilities
and served on the panel for pro-bono services for the Disability
Law Center.
"I am
honored to have the Stonewall endorsement. Respecting diversity
and protecting human rights will be guiding principles during
my administration", said Long.
"We
call on our Stonewall DFL Caucus members and people who
are in support of gay, lesbian and transgender issues to
attend precinct caucuses next week to support these candidates",
said Thomas.
Delegates
and alternates to the city convention on June 2 will be
elected at the seven St. Paul city ward caucuses to be held
on April 17, 21 and 22. For information about precinct caucuses
